Public Works provides responsive, effective, and professional day to day maintenance of Tooele City’s physical and environmental infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents and make Tooele a sustainable and desirable place to live, work, and visit. Public Works plays a key role in the success of Tooele City’s government. Department employees provide many of the direct services Tooele residents and visitors receive. Street maintenance and repair, snow removal, street sweeping, traffic signs, street light maintenance, culinary water provision, sewer treatment, cleaning and maintenance of city roadways and storm drains, replacement of hazardous curb, gutter, and sidewalks, maintenance of City-owned vehicles and equipment, and fleet maintenance for the entire City operation to keep the vehicles and equipment operational and in good repair for use in service of the community are all examples of the functions performed by Public Works personnel. The mission of the Public Works Department is to operate and maintain public infrastructure efficiently and effectively in order to protect public safety and enhance the quality of life for those living and working in Tooele.
Did you know that Utah law requires the City to educate the citizens on this? Have you ever wondered who is responsible when your sewer lateral or water service line needs repair? City Code 8-6-13 states “All building sewers, including the connection to the POTW sewer, shall be maintained by the property owner”. Property owners are responsible for their own sewer laterals up to the wye connection to the main sewer line. City Code 9-4-6 states “Tooele City shall maintain the service pipe from the main line to and including the water meter and other apparatus within the meter box.” Property owners are responsible for their own water lines from the meter box connection into the property and structure.
