Firework Restrictions
Tooele City 2026 Pioneer Day Firework Restrictions Remain in Effect.
Over the past several weeks, Tooele City has continued to closely monitor fire conditions in consultation with the Utah State Forester and other state officials. We have carefully reviewed current and forecasted weather conditions, drought conditions, fire behavior, fuel conditions, and all other available information.
Unfortunately, Tooele City has received very little measurable precipitation since the Independence Day holiday. As a result, fire conditions within our community are even more severe than they were at the beginning of July.
After a thorough evaluation of all available factors, Tooele City has made the difficult decision to continue the prohibition on the use of personal fireworks anywhere within Tooele City limits during the Pioneer Day holiday period, July 22 through July 25.
Please note that this restriction prohibits the use of personal fireworks, but it does not prohibit their sale. Fireworks retailers may continue to sell fireworks as permitted by state law; however, the discharge or use of personal fireworks within Tooele City is prohibited during the restricted period and is subject to a $1,000 fine.
We recognize that many families look forward to celebrating Pioneer Day with fireworks, and we do not make this decision lightly. However, our first responsibility is protecting the lives, homes, businesses, and open spaces within our community. Under the current conditions, a single firework has the potential to ignite a fast-moving wildfire.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the residents of Tooele City for your outstanding cooperation during the Independence Day holiday. Your willingness to comply with the restrictions helped keep our community safe, and we are grateful for your continued support and understanding.
We appreciate the community’s continued partnership as we work together to protect lives, property, and our surrounding wildland areas during this period of extreme fire danger.

DATES OF SALE
Vendors may sell Class C common state approved explosives as follows:
- Beginning on June 24th and ending on July 25th;
- Beginning on December 29th and ending on December 31st; and
- 2 days before and on Chinese New Year's Eve
Safety Tips for Sparklers
- Children under the age of 12 should not use sparklers without very close adult supervision.
- Always remain standing while using sparklers.
- Never hold a child in your arms while using sparklers.
- Never hold or light more than one sparkler at a time.
- Sparklers and bare feet can be a painful combination. Always wear closed toe shoes when using sparklers.
- Sparkler wire and stick remain hot long after the flame has gone out. Be sure to drop the spent sparklers directly in a bucket of water.
- Never hand a lighted sparkler to another person. Give them the unlit sparkler and then light it.
- Always stand at least 6 feet from another person while using sparklers.
- Never throw sparklers.
- Show children how to hold sparklers away from their body and at arm’s length.
- Teach children not to wave sparklers, especially wooden stick sparklers, or run while holding sparklers.
